This week, our team of Montreal real estate brokers explores Les Mauvaises Herbes. A charming boutique nestled on the popular Plaza St-Hubert, in the heart of the Rosemont-La-Petite-Patrie district, more precisely in Petite-Patrie.
Opening of the physical boutique on Plaza St-Hubert
Les Mauvaises Herbes was founded in 2018 and initially operated exclusively online. In 2019, the entrepreneurs launched a socio-financing campaign to open a physical boutique. This initiative far exceeded their expectations, raising over 508% of the initial target. Thanks to this success, they opened their store on Plaza St-Hubert, in the heart of the Rosemont district.
However, the opening of the store coincided with the arrival of the global pandemic. Barely three months after the inauguration, the virus imposed strict containment, forcing the company to temporarily close its doors for several months. It was a particularly trying time. But the three entrepreneurs showed great resilience and a remarkable ability to adapt. As soon as conditions allowed, they managed to open their store, while maintaining close links with their customers.
Body care in the heart of Rosemont
Les Mauvaises Herbes boutique offers a wide selection of skincare products. You can buy serums, creams, soaps, herbal teas and products specially designed to relieve menstrual cramps. Bulk items are also available, perfect for refilling your essentials with ease. With prices ranging from $10 to $50, products are affordable and suitable for all budgets.
3 women entrepreneurs running a thriving business
The company was founded by three inspiring female entrepreneurs: Mariane, Audrey and Marie. United by a common passion for ecology and handmade products, these three women with diverse backgrounds have combined their expertise. Their complementarity is the key to the company’s strength, with a shared vision aimed at having a positive impact on the environment while valuing artisanal work. The adventure began in 2014 with a blog called Les Trappeuses, which focused mainly on recipes for homemade cosmetics and household products. The blog quickly gained in popularity. In fact, in 2017, the three creators made the decision to quit their jobs to devote themselves fully to this project.
The following year, in 2018, they launched their online store. The aim of this platform was to meet the demand of customers wishing to purchase the ingredients needed to make the recipes they offered. They also published their first book, À fleur de peau. It was a great success, with over 30,000 copies sold since its release. In 2021, they have expanded their offer with two new books.
La Plaza St-Hubert
Plaza St-Hubert, once renowned as the go-to destination for bridal and prom dresses, is located in the heart of the Rosemont district. Since 2019, this pedestrian street has undergone a thorough overhaul of its strategic positioning. The main objective of this transformation was to diversify its commercial offering in order to attract a wider and more varied clientele. As part of this renewal, a number of improvements were made to revitalize the Plaza. For example, sidewalks were widened to facilitate outdoor events, while preserving traffic flow.
Today, Plaza St-Hubert is home to nearly 400 diverse businesses, ranging from gourmet restaurants like Montreal Plaza, to trendy boutiques like Arloca and Belle et Rebelle. The opening of Les Mauvaises Herbes in 2019 is a perfect illustration of this new dynamic, marking a real turning point for the Rosemont district and its commercial appeal.
